CCTV Monitors

Your CCTV system will be completely ineffectual if you are unable to view clear video images. There are many CCTV monitors available in the market place to choose from and you should never underestimate how important a good CCTV monitor will be as a key component of your security system.

If video images have been captured using high quality cameras and storage media, digital recording for example, it would be clearly not be sensible to view the images on a CCTV monitor screen which cannot render the detail of the images to their full potential.

There are a huge range of CCTV monitors available, offering a choice of colour or monochrome variations, conventional CRT (tube) CCTV monitors or flat screen LCD and plasma CCTV monitors.

The transition from analogue CCTV to IP will mean an ever increasing use of HD and megapixel cameras, which by definition will produce far greater video capture and recording quality. By further definition, this means that the quality of CCTV monitors will need to be compatible and capable of displaying the improved image quality.

For most purposes medium resolution colour CCTV monitors will provide the best balance of performance and cost. They will also cope perfectly well with a mixture of colour and monochrome cameras displayed on the same screen. If using analogue CCTV or standard IP cameras where the highest possible picture definition is needed, only monochrome cameras and monitors can deliver this. Ultra-high resolution mono CCTV monitors can provide screen resolutions of 800 TV lines per inch, compared with 650 TVL for the best colour CCTV monitors.

Monochrome cameras still provide the best night time performance, so if night surveillance is the primary objective, it makes sense to couple low-light mono cameras with a high-resolution monochrome monitor.

The choice between flat screen and conventional tube (CRT) CCTV monitors will often be determined by the location of the CCTV monitor. Elegant and space-saving LCD CCTV monitors will compliment modern décor, or simply be more practical.

If the image surface is required to be large, as to be seen from a distance, or by a large numbers of people, then a plasma screen is probably the only choice.

Larger CCTV monitor displays, such as plasma, will be a pre-requisite if multi-camera images are to be displayed on the same CCTV monitor screen and viewed from a distance.
